The sun started to sink, the search still continued but they still had not found any clues about Ren Yuan's whereabouts. Xin Zhan growled several times considering that he had just been aiming for the wrong enemy. Almost he was seen with a military force similar to the perpetrator who brought Ren Yuan.
Xin Zhan's breathing was wheezing, he took a deep breath while looking at the city filled with women and children. Both of them became the center of attention in the city, moreover both of them were still so young.
"It's bad."
Xin Chen did not know where they should go because Xin Zhan said he lost track after the enemy crossed the border. For a while, Xin Zhan rested in front of an empty house.
"How can we find one person in an Empire this wide? If only I had seen their faces ... They all wore crow masks, no features other than the black robe and the mask."
"Calm down first." Xin Chen muttered little.
"Can you calm down yourself?"
There was a sound from the crowd of the market not far from where they were sitting. The sky in the dull-looking Qing Empire began to show signs the night was coming. Xin Zhan sat in meditation, recovering his body in order to continue his next quest.
"Why did they bring mom too? And the way you are now, did they not manage to snatch those two swords from you?"
"It could be," Xin Chen responded. "They'll never get that thing. Worst possibility right now is they want to use mom to get me to give you those two heirlooms."
"What's? You just said it now?" Xin Zhan stood up in panic. "You know mom will be killed by them and you just stay here?! Are you his son or not?!"
"You yourself? I'm with you but why would they kidnap her? Are you a real First Pillar or just a name pinned by force?"
Xin Zhan pulled Xin Chen's collar with scruffy eyes. If it didn't remember Xin Chen was his sister, Xin Zhan would definitely finish him off right now.
"I'm sorry now or I won't forgive you, Chen."
Xin Chen brushed off her brother's hand, she was also just as upset as Xin Zhan's words.
The two stubborn people were both unwilling to budge. Xin Zhan sat back down, his face still very angry and reluctant to see his sister again. A few minutes passed just like that until Xin Chen finally let out a voice.
"Sorry."
Xin Zhan turned his head for a moment, then chuckled. "It hasn't changed, has it? You're the one who's giving up?"
"If it wasn't me who's sorry maybe forever we wouldn't talk" Xin Chen said. Xin Zhan put on a triumphant face.
"According to your brother. The harder your head gets. Maybe it's no longer a brain but a stone."
"Stop mocking me."
Xin Chen no longer cared what her brother said, he began to shut his lazy ear. An hour later they ran out of ideas, Xin Zhan said they had to split up in order for the search to be faster but Xin Chen did not agree to it at all.
Since Xin Zhan had no identity, he would definitely be instantly arrested. Xin Chen had already imagined just how troublesome it would be to save her brother. Facing the soldiers of the Qing Empire was indeed infuriating. Besides having weapons, they were also numerous.
Midnight the two walked along the city the place where Xin Chen and Shui had come before. There was a little boy walking alone. He seemed to have just returned from his employer's house.
Xin Chen seemed to recognize the boy. A child who had previously been pursued by assassins and almost died in an alley. His life seemed to be improving, but the sadness on his face was obvious.
Just as Xin Chen was chasing, he attacked the killer and finished him off in an alley. Xin Chen walked out from there with his hands drenched in blood, finding Xin Zhan protecting him by brandishing a sword.
"Directly kill you?"
"Then?"
Xin Zhan seemed to want to scold but she held him back because the little boy behind her was terrified. When he turned around, he found the child's face was glittering staring at the two of them. He does not speak and only shows his spirit through body movements.
"Next time be careful."
"It looks like he's being targeted. I don't know what made him go after the killers."
The little boy understood what Xin Chen was saying. He thought for a moment then moved his hand, speaking through sign language. Fortunately Xin Zhan understood what he was saying and directly relayed it to Xin Chen.
"You ever helped this kid before?"
"Yes. It looks dangerous if we continue here. Come with us."
He happily followed the two young men. They stayed in an inn that was like it was going to collapse. There was no other choice but the inn. After asking them to know the boy could read and write, Xin Chen asked the innkeeper for a few strands of paper and stationery. They entered a very dark room.
Xin Zhan whispered. "Why did you bring this kid? You know we should focus on the search."
"Outside is too dangerous. Some people are already stalking us, either assassins or Imperial soldiers. You remember, we're intruders. Once caught the death penalty will be obtained."
Xin Zhan had never studied the structure of the Qing Empire and the other strict rules that had to be adhered to. This empire was indeed much different from the peaceful and peaceful Shang Empire.
"Whose name?"
Xin Zhan asked the little boy, looking like he was introgating. His firm and hard carry began to appear, the little boy until goosebumps were made.
He introduced himself, his name often called Zenzen. A very strange name in their ears. Xin Chen changed into asking about the assassin who kept on eyeing him. Although only a mute child, he was targeted by many assassins at once. Xin Chen could not ignore it.
Zenzen explains that his mother's father had been murdered for cheating. His father was a soldier who resigned from the military. He took some valuable items in the form of weapons and head guards which were quite expensive.
Zenzen had no idea what had put his father under fire until his son was killed. What is clear is that they keep asking about where the headguard is and also the weapon that his father stole. Zenzen doesn't know about any of that. Several times Xin Chen asked, he simply shook his head.
Xin Zhan let out his opinion. "Just because of the head protection? What's that stuff?"
Zenzen is back.
"They said the headgear was made of a rare black stone that was impenetrable to any weapon. It's very strange shape. Like an animal."
Xin Chen said quickly. "Does the shape have a beak? Or the shape of a bird's head?"
