The Midnight Radio

The Midnight Radio
Episode 61

"Rem, I'm leaving first huh? When do you wake up? Wake dong! Ntar no one nemenin I eat siomay again," I said softly while wiping tears.

In front of me the figure of Remi was still lying stiff. Only from the presence of the tools beside him is the only marker if he is still alive.

I got up and stretched my body for a while before walking towards the door of the ICU room. Already from the morning I was here after hearing the news that Remi would be operated on. His hair was shaved off and left an elongated wound covered in bandages. The doctor said, although the critical period is over, but his condition is still unconscious and unstable.

"Udah?" ask Nyx from the waiting chair. I nodded and walked slowly followed by him.

"Bang Win's headphones aren't being made again?" ask her as soon as we're in the car.

"Whoa, I'm waiting for Remi's voice. He said something once. But so far no," I replied slowly.

Nyx just stood still and pressed the gas pedal slowly. Something broke my heart from the inside when I saw Remi in the ICU. All the way from the hospital to Radio Rebel we traveled in silence.

"Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, Inoxu present from the second floor studio Story of Midnight 12.08FM Radio Rebel Bandung. For approximately the next hour and a half, I will accompany the listeners all with stories from the sources. For the opening, a song requested by Atik Rezekiani from Armada with the Wait will be played. Stay tuned and don't go anywhere."

I turned off the mic and turned towards the chair Remi used to sit on. Besides me, Gia did the same. Feeling something painful inside made me lay my head on the table and cry again until Gia came over and hugged me tightly. We were both immersed in a soundless cry, trying to ease the slight pain in the heart.

"Prepare again there," said Gia Iirih wiping her tears. I did the same thing and grabbed a bottle of mineral water. Hopefully my voice does not interfere too much with the broadcast.

In the middle of the song, I picked out a phone number I'd call to be the source tonight. My mood was so bad, that for a few minutes, I just stared at the line of phone numbers on the monitor without contacting any of the sources.

"Xu, focus okay? I know you're sad tea, but there's a responsibility we have to do" Gia said from behind her desk.

When I woke up and picked a random number, a call came in. I picked him up and asked someone on the other end to wait because he said if he wanted to be the source.

"Welcome to listeners who have just joined. One song that I have played from Armada hopefully can accompany the night break of all listeners. At the end of the connection there are already our speakers who will share the story. Hello, where's it with?"

"Hello, Xu. It's Raylen Tea. Calling a cousin's number. Tets' phone's running out of power."

My throat choked when I realized who was calling. Brother Remi.

"Teh," I said raucously.

"There's nothing, Xu. Teteh want to call at all times to the program that Remi holds. Although he had repeatedly asked Teteh to call, when Teteh could, he was not there. Please tell me a story, Xu? Teten want to relieve the feeling of tightness," he replied.

"Yes Tea" I replied with all my might. Gia was seen crying in her chair.

"We were born with only two brothers. From the time Remi was a child, papa has been gone forever leaving us. That's why, mama took over all the responsibility to support both of us. Although mediocre and used to be very hungry. The more we came here, our lives improved with the appointment of a mama from a factory worker to a foreman.

In the eyes of Teteh, Remi is a sister who does not have much behavior. After graduating from high school, he refused to go to college because he did not want to burden Teteh who was just starting work. After school, he worked odd jobs where he could get his own pocket money and finally, he could take a newsroom class. It was also he did not burden Teteh and mama. He used his own money to sign up until graduation, until fate led him to Radio Rebel. He told me, on Radio Rebel, he was given the opportunity to learn another part that is still related to broadcasting, which is how to become a music director and operator."

The silence created made me sure that Raylen Tea was crying.

"When we worked at Radio Rebel, we used to exchange motorcycles. If the clock is working, he often succumbed on foot, even though the distance from home to Radio Rebel is quite decent. However, since he held the midnight program, we could more freely take turns using the motor because Teteh came home from work in the afternoon.

Teteh often nawarin him to take a new bike, and he always refused. He said, if Teteh has money, please just love to mama partly, and save some for yourself.

Remi's condition now makes Teteh extraordinarily sad. The sister who always relented, not much need, always smart to carry herself, now silent helpless in the hospital."

"Please your best prayer for Remi huh, Xu? If this is Remi's destiny. Insha Allah Teteh iklas. Teteh did not want to go in his way. Tetah leave everything to the original owner Remi. Life will never be the same after losing someone we love. At the very least, Xu? Make a lot of you and Gia already want to be friends Remi. Wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh."

I cried in agony and could not afford to continue broadcasting. With trembling hands, my hands immediately played the song and then turned off the mic. Gia came back to me and we spent a few moments in tears. It is true, the existence of a person will feel valuable when the person is no longer able to accompany us.

The studio door opens and features the figures of Bang Win and Kang Utep. The two of them approached in silence.

"Things that happened Remi was caught. Just now the police ngabarin," said Kang Utep slowly. I raised my face for a moment.

"Will Win go to the police station?" my many.

With hesitation Bang Win nodded. "I'm coming," I added.

"Me too" said Gia.

Bang Win looked at Kang Utep for a while before nodding. The man pulled out his phone to call Nyx and told me he was taking me to the police station.

The four of us headed to the police station in a stifling silence. When I arrived, I was surprised to find Nyx's car in the parking lot. The sight I saw inside was even more shocking because it saw Nyx punching someone. Several officers held him, but were unable to handle Nyx's power from nowhere. In front of him, the person who had just punched Nyx just smiled mockingly.

"That's why, sir?" ask a police officer.

"That's neng, the aa was so entered directly nonjok begal who just tucked. The case of the sealing as well as the mistreatment, the victim's a woman, still in a coma in the hospital."

"What's on RRR Street?" ask again.

"Rubber."

Hearing that instantly my emotions rose to the highest level. With wide strides I approached the still smiling man mocking towards Nyx and punching her right in the eyes. Not only that, I managed to grab hold of her hair and pull as hard as I could. Everyone there looked surprised including Bang Win and Kang Utep who were trying to pull me away. When Bang Win lifted my body from behind, I still had time to throw a kick towards the stomach.

"Can you calm down?! If not, I'll lock it in all these cells!" an officer of rank snapped at us all.

"Lock it, sir! As long as the person's hand was let me thud," I shouted out loud. The shocked Bang Win shut my mouth with his palm.

"Please calm down, Tea. Violence will not solve anything" the officer continued. I just shut up and stopped struggling. Nyx approached and pulled me to sit in one of the long chairs.

"You should have kicked the bird, let it hurt not to giggle," said Nyx who made Bang Win, Gia and Kang Utep stunned.

"I was nervous that the perpetrators of the law enforcement on the RRR road had been arrested, but did not think that all of you came in the early hours continue to make a scene here. The legal process will go ahead, and the perpetrator will be held here until the full file. Now mending you guys go home first. Take it easy first" said the police officer who threatened to put us all in the cell.

In silence we went out after nodding slowly at the officer. As I was walking towards the parking lot, my phone shook. A call from Raylen Tea came in.

"Xu ...," he called. Sounding stuffing in the background of the end of the connection.

I shut up and listened.

"Remi, Xu ...."

I immediately switched off the phone and asked Nyx to drive me to the hospital.
