CHAPTER 25: The Village Oddity

It was noon when we resumed our journey.

Izzy said there would be two separate paths. One goes to the village, the other goes to the farm. Whatever we choose, neither of them will lead us to our destination.

Hearing that, I almost let go of my anger if only the cupu did not continue speaking. “We choose the middle path,” he said.

The girl again added, “it is a shortcut to school. We can't get past the villagers. A lot of things have happened. With the equipment we carry, it will make them suspicious.”

Duh. As much as I would like to protest because we have to go through the forest path again instead of the path, we have no other choice. Only the geeky knows his direction. Inevitably I had to agree to it and lower my ego.

After an exhausting journey, we reached the intersection Izzy said. The direction to the village is in the northeast and the farm leads to the southeast. We have to go east.

And what we're doing right now is pecking in the middle of the intersection.

Now I'm not sure enough not to obey my ego.

In front of us, the east direction we were going to, stood two large stones the size of two freezers in the supermarket. And they stood side by side flanking a narrow road in the middle. 

Seeing that, I certainly couldn't bear to take a breath and exhale it with an irritated feeling. That Crawford I looked at with a look 'you're serious?'.

Who blames me, when what do we have to go through the width of the body is not up to the size of an adult?!

If we want to pass through it, maybe we have to walk sideways and get crushed by rocks. Not to mention the moss that grew covered the part of the stone that became the road wall. It will dirty our clothes in one step.

Exasperated, I walked over to take a peek. Checking if there was anything else that would make me explode in anger.

The road looks slippery and damp. Extend about three meters forward until it reaches the wider part. There are latrines and others like that there. It was not completely covered with shrubs, but I cannot guarantee that some thorns and sharp twigs would hurt us.

"You're sure we have to go down this road, Crawford?" I'm not sure while stepping back. Back to staring at the geeky flatly.

"I agree. What if there's a snake?" Delilah behind me chimed in with a spoiled whimper.

Hearing his girlfriend's whining, Ethan protests. "Why not just go through the village? At most they just wonder. You see, Max is fine."

Izzy Crawford shakes. "No. They will be suspicious. If the villagers knew what we were going to do, they would never let us go."

Hearing that, we shut up.

"You've been down this road before?" ethan is still trying.

The cupu nodded before replying "My brother once took me there one time on this road" he said.

My noisiest friend snorted annoyedly at his reply. "One time? Do you remember?" the upset.

Unexpectedly, the geeky replied to Ethan in a cold tone. "If you want to take the risk of passing through the village and make us fail, please. I'm not forcing. Just cancel the plan."

Ethan opened his mouth and closed it again. Loss of words in one attack.

Isaac and Noah looked at each other with a proud look. Well, the cupu is indeed quite cool when making Ethan no longer able to speak.

Alright. 

If we've come this far just because of a slight obstacle, it's no more annoying than getting nothing. With a firm heart, I decided.

"Fines. We have no other choice. Let me go in first."

"Me alone. Let me check first." Noah pulled me back and took off his bag to be carried over his head before slipping himself in and limping in.

My face was hot as Ethan whistling teased behind me. Not what, I hate blushing in front of a lot of people. What if they think I'm a cute girl?

Well, I mean I am.

But what if Noah knows I like him?

"Guys …." Noah's tense-sounding voice blew my mind.

"Hows it? Aman?" Isaac stepped forward to peek.

"I think .. I think you should see this" Noah said. 

Without a second thought, Isaac quickly entered the narrow street.

It wasn't until a minute, we were all jolted at the screams of Isaac.

"Oh God! What's that?!"

Izzy and I exchanged looks. With my heart crossed I inserted myself between the big stones. My slender body made it at least easy for me to take a little sidelong and walk forward.

Mosses swiping on clothes, a wet scent, and a faint strange smell began to smell. I don't know what this pungent scent is, but I definitely feel like I've smelled it from somewhere.

The hospital smell.

Pungent aroma such as antiseptic, alcohol, foul odor and …

Aroma formaldehyde.

The last two steps I took and that very second I saw the two young men who were almost the same height were looking up with eyes of disbelief.

"Hey, there's ap-"

I can't breathe.
