Fake Princess

Fake Princess
CHAPTER 62

A series of other attacks had already occurred in my mind, and I almost said them. However, right at that moment, I saw one of Diana's hands clutching the rough fabric of her robe, rubbing it up and down between the fingers as if the gesture could calm her down. I realized his robe smelled good. There was absolutely no musty smell of the typical clothes that were put in the chest by the palace maid because it was never used.

“ It's not just used as a disguise, right?” many .

Diana squinted, waiting for another rude cry, but when she did not hear it, she nodded once.

“ I don't let them take it. They gave me new clothes at the convent, for the train ride, but they didn't send robes. I said I was cold, and they let me carry this. After I got here, I hid it before they had time to bring it.”

I bent my body, both elbows resting on my knees and my face buried on my palms. It's easy to hate him. Filled with self-esteem for feeling stabbed in the back. Attacking Diana for what her family did to me, how they used me, then getting rid of me. I wanted to hate Diana for taking the life I thought was mine.

I can't. Devan was right, my mind while holding a bitter laugh. We both didn't expect any of this. Everything was decided by others.the king & queen, the witches they asked for help, even the Nameless God, as he sent the death prophecy after the birth of the princess. We both had no control whatsoever.& I was tired of being a thorny bush, tired of yelling at everyone around me. Perhaps, by not hating Diana, forgiving her for her life for the life she now has, I could truly begin to become Amelia, and not just the fake princess.

“ I'm sorry,” I said as I raised my head from the top of my hand. “ It seems like lately I've just been arguing with everyone. We start all over again, how? My name is Amelia, & you are Diana.”

Diana was still too cold as I started talking, but after she finished, her face softened. “ I'm sorry too. I know you don't want to see me, & I keep coming.”

“ I don't have long,” said Diana. “ I've been coming to this place for the last few days, long enough, guessing you might come.”

“ Why?” my many.

“ You told Devan that Paula often told you to drop off or buy something. So I went to all the shops he said he frequented, while he lied to everyone who asked me where I was.” Diana was flirting again. “ I want to wait in front of your house, but I don't dare. But I guess this way is more time consuming.”

I hooked the fingers, then relaxed them. “ Did he tell you I was here, in town? You know it that way?”

I saw the look of consideration implied in Diana's eyes, while trying to decide whether or not she should tell me. I waited as Diana exhaled slowly, then said, “ Yes & No. I mean, she did tell me where she thought Paula told you to go, but I myself already assumed you were in town.”

“ How can?” I imagined a network of spies, all ready and willing to do the new princess's orders, even though I knew how ridiculous it was. After all, I used to have no eyes, and never heard of a sixteen year old princess or prince who had a spy.
