Horror Story
Mount Pulosari Part 1 - #9

I was shocked when the figure of that woman turned into Riki. Kerisku stabbed her throat. Riki's eyes bulged, her glasses falling. Both of his hands shook like a dying cockroach.

I pulled back the keris that was only as long as the adult. Blood spurts from the hole from a scratchy patch. I screamed while holding Riki's slow body.

“Rik! Rick! Riki!”

I covered the wound that was still bleeding with my handkerchief. He's dying. His eyes looked at me like there was something he wanted to say, but it was stuck in his throat.

“Ma.. sorryin cave, Ri. Pu... pu... go home,” said.

A moment later both his eyes were closed. I no longer feel his heartbeat. I wept. I wanted to kill myself right then. I can no longer survive on a mountain like this. The events I went through were getting weird and tragic.

The rain did not stop. I got up and reached for a rope from my backpack. I tied the rope to Riki's body. I have to bring Riki's body home.

Two days passed. It was like I was going round and round on this mountain. For these two days, I've been eating roasted grasshoppers. That locust colony I found in the middle of my journey. The problem today is Riki's body is getting rotten. His body gave off a very pungent smell.

I stopped in the middle of the road. I stole a bottle of water from the bag, which I filled when it rained. I gulped that water. I looked at Riki's body. Under these circumstances, there was no way I could take her home. Burying Riki's body could be the best way..

I took off the rope that bound his body. I then looked for a moist soil surface so that it was easy to dig. With great difficulty, I dug up the ground using a log as big as an adult arm that I had tucked off the end of the wood.

I can't dig that soil too deep. Just being able to hoard Riki's body was enough. After successfully burying him, I plugged the log as a marker of his grave. Then I prayed for Riki.

The night fell back. I was still walking down an endless path. Mira and Eldi no longer appear. While the fireball still floats around me wherever I go. Shortly after, I smelled the smell of burnt dry wood. From far away, the shadow of the fire was cast.

“Finally...,” I smile happily. There seems to be someone camping around here.

I know the guy. He's Mr. Jaro, the caretaker of Mount Pulosari. I don't know what he's doing. I approached slowly. He got up from his seat before I could say hello. Jaro looked at me with a flat look. I'm alert. My right hand is ready to hold the knife.

“You want to see what you've done?” Jaro sir stepped towards the hut.

He kicked the door of the shack. How shocked I was to see Abah Sarta and Sapinah's grandmother killed. Neck hung. Both of his eyes bulged, his tongue sticking out. I don't know what happened to those two.

“They died trying to save you,” said Mr. Jaro. Next, “You're lucky. You were born Friday night. Jin here can't hurt you, but he won't let you get away from this mountain.”

My eyes are observant to pay attention to the hand movements of Mr. Jaro who slowly reached into something from behind his back. I took a few steps back. Sure enough he pulled out a machete.

“I have to kill you and make you fall so that there are no more fatalities.”

Two men appeared from behind the hut. Each of them carries a rope. I immediately ran away with all my might away from Mr. Jaro. The three of them were after me.

“You must die!” yelled Mr. Jaro from behind.

I ran away like a boar, crashing into whatever was in front of me. Sometimes I look back. Mr. Jaro's flashlight swung ever closer towards me. I deliberately turned off my flashlight so it wouldn't be seen by him.

If I had to die on this mountain, I wouldn't have died in Jaro's hands.
