A week later, Malvin was able to move from his bed even though he had to grimace occasionally feeling pain in some of his joints.
Malvin turned his head quickly as he heard the creaking of the door opening and he smiled at the nun who came to check on her condition periodically.
“Do you need anything, Mister?” ask the nurse after checking her condition and take notes to report to the doctor.
“I heard I had to get a blood transfusion during surgery first. Is that true?” Malvin remembered the thing he had heard from the doctor who handled the operation. It also accidentally stole the hearing of the Doctor's conversation with his father a few days ago.
“Iya. One of your family members who donated his blood to you,”
“Really? Who?” Malvin widened his eyes, growing curious. He was guessing it was his older brother.
“A girl named Alena.”
The curious look on Malvin's face faded and changed with a surprised look. His eyes widened and Malvin almost had trouble breathing.
“You mean Alena Kezia?”
The nurse nodded and bowed her body leaving Malvin in all his confusion.
Why did Alena give her blood?
Why not just his family?
Are none of them the same blood type as him?
No, there must be. But why not do it?
Dozens of questions popped up simultaneously in his brain, making his head dizzy for a moment. Cold sweat appeared on his temples. Faintly his ears caught the sound of footsteps entering the room. The dizziness on his head disappeared as soon as his mother's soft voice sounded.
“You're better, son?” Mother kissed Malvin's forehead at a glance and placed a bag of food on Malvin's bed.
“Better than yesterday,” waned Malvin, looking at his mother with a probing gaze. It seemed that Mother did not realize that Malvin was looking at her straight because the middle-aged woman was busy taking out the things she was carrying earlier.
“Is it true that Alena donated her blood to save me?”
Mother's entire movement following the smile on her face came to a halt when Malvin's question fell like an atomic bomb. Mother forced herself to look at her son's face that shriveled shrouded in curiosity. Suddenly, Mom felt her legs tighten so she had to hold on to the side of the bed so as not to fall. The shocked Malvin immediately held back his mother's almost staggered arm from falling down.
“Mother, are you okay?” tanyanya panic. Malvin regretted asking because he did not know that his mother would be shocked to hear his question. Mother asked Malvin to let go of her hand and let her sit on the bedside chair.
I'm not gonna ask you where Malvin knows about it. Anyone can tell him intentionally or unintentionally. He just didn't think the time would come so soon. He had not prepared an answer that would not make his son hysterical.
“Yes, she did donate her blood to you,” Mother started saying in a raucous voice.
“Why should he? Are among the Radhian family members no one can donate his blood?”
“No, Malvin!” mother raised her hand so that Malvin would stop talking.
"Mother please don't ask more. I will answer it but not at this time.”
Malvin's suspicions rise, realizing that Mom is like trying to hide an important fact from him.
“Why? Now or later it is not the same. Or..” Malvin's eyes narrowed,
“Is there something you're hiding from me?”
“Nothing, son. Really.” Mother said half-begging. He got up and rubbed Malvin's head lovingly.
“Now you should finish your meal first after that we go back to talking,” Mother kissed the top of her head before finally dodging Malvin's question by going out of the room.
In silence, Malvin stared at the door of his room that was slowly closing. He is not a child who can be lied to easily. He knows something is wrong. Something he was trying to hide from her.
