The Unforgettable Story
Section 72

Kemala smiled seeing Kirana coming closer. He tells Miles about his arrival through the intercom. While waiting, the assistant chief director invited him in. Kirana opens the door to Miles' room and closes it again. The man was seriously reading the documents on his desk.

“Pak Bradford,” saya Kirana.

“Please sit down, Kirana.” Miles said without looking at him.

“I just want to give you this.” Kirana put the envelope she brought onto the table. The man finally lifted his head and looked at the envelope. He took it, and without seeing what was inside, he tore it apart twice, then threw it into the trash under his desk.

“There's more you want to say?” miles asked while looking at him without blinking. Kirana rounded her eyes and her mouth gaped wide.

“A, what did you just do?” kirana protests.

“If there are no more, you can return to your room. Oh, and one more thing. Before I forget, I'd like to see the presentation you'll bring at the time of training. Who knows if there is anything I need to add to perfect it.”

“You can't keep me here forever, Miles.” threatened Kirana.

“Oh. You came back to Miles after calling me Mr. Bradford. Pulling.” Miles was again busy with the paper before him. “I'm not holding you here. The door is unlocked.”

Kirana growled furiously. Striking his feet violently, he walked out of the room of his superior. Miles laughed a little. He called her when she came out. “Not now, Kemala. I'll call you later.” Kirana said without slowing down.

He waited for five minutes for the elevator door to open. Someone suddenly grabbed her upper arm and pulled her into the elevator. Kirana raised her head and saw Miles standing by her side. He pulled his hand from the man's grasp. Miles pressed the numbers towards the floor where Kirana's workspace was located.

“What do you want now?” ask Kirana annoyed.

“Deputy director of marketing has just resigned.” Miles said as soon as the elevator door closed. “I can't lose you too, Kirana. We're going to have an impromptu meeting this afternoon to decide who we should take up to replace him. You are one of our best candidates.”

“Resign? But Mr. Indra is an enterprising person and has big dreams for this company. How is it possible to just get out?” kirana asked in disbelief.

“And he is also one of my best friends.” Miles massaged his forehead. “We can't talk here. We'll talk in your room.”

“In my room? No, Miles. We never only talk when we are in MY room. You definitely plan to do that again ‘kan?” accuse Kirana. Miles looked at him with a serious look.

“I just want to talk.” Miles said firmly.

Arriving at the destination floor, Miles lets Kirana out first. Heads sprung from each of the cubicles as they walked towards his room. Kirana rolled her eyeballs looking at her overly curious staff. Miles' status as a widower caught the attention of his female co-workers who could not take their eyes off Miles. No. gabe. Not because of his status. Miles is an interesting guy. It is only natural that many women are attracted to him.

“Please hold all the phones until Mr. Bradford comes out of my room, Susan.” Kirana orders to her assistant.

“Good, Ma.” replied Susan.

Miles opened the door for her, Kirana squinted her eyes. It was not the first time the man had done so. He always does. But in front of his staff, every little act the man took made him uncomfortable. That guy's great. He did not look disturbed at all with all the gazes directed at him.

“I know. I also experience the same thing with you every time I see the bedroom door in my work space.” said Miles amused.

“Do you want to drink something? I can ask Susan,” bargain Kirana.

“No need, thank you.” said Miles slowly. “That knows the real reason Indra resigned is just me, Reynand, and Nathan. And now I'm going to tell you too. He stole a huge amount of money from the company.”

“What? But how? Doesn't the only one who has access to the company's accounts be you, the treasurer director, and the head of the finance department? How did he get the money?”

“True. But he can manipulate the money he receives to create ads and so on to put into his own account. Or rather, an account opened in the name of his daughter. There was so much money in his account. The amount that comes in every month is three times the amount of his salary.”

“When he doesn't have a side job, his son doesn't work, so it's very suspicious. Indra is the only suspect. His daughter had no resources to earn that kind of money. Reynand checked it out and found the evidence I needed. He stole the company's money. Money mine.”

“You said he resigned.” Kirana's confused.

“Iya. I forced him to do that. I don't want to give him severance.” said Miles annoyed. Kirana nodded her head. “Charles makes a statement letter that has been signed by Indra. He won't be able to sue me for severance someday. But if he's reckless, I have proof to put him in jail.”

“Did he have returned the money he stole?” ask Kirana to know.

“Added with money indemnity.” Miles looked satisfied.

“Sorry this has to happen to you, Miles.” regrets Kirana.

“This is not the first but it still feels annoying. Why should I lose people, good and great, because of greed? I gave everything for them. Salary increases, bonuses, perks, incentives, less what else?” Miles massaged his forehead. “If you dare to do the same, Kirana, I will kick you out of my company.”

“Hm. Looks like you gave me an idea to get out without you being able to block again.” Kirana's tease. Miles laughed a little. The woman was relieved to see her superior had relaxed again.

“Nathan will tell you the results of the meeting this afternoon. If they agree to promote you as deputy director, you will move to a new workspace. Of course we'll discuss your new salary and responsibilities later. Believe this. You won't be able to resist once you hear the amount I'm going to offer you.”

“Miles, I'm not sure I can do it.”

“Ya, you can.” Miles stand. Kirana stood up from her seat. The man kissed her cheek and walked out of the room. Kirana looked around her room and sighed softly.

That afternoon, Kirana was just staring at her computer screen. There was an announcement of his promotion on the screen. Imperative. He had to move to another room upstairs. He sighed softly. In the interim, he will have to serve as deputy director and marketing manager until they get a replacement.

As the phone on her desk rang, she lifted the handle and placed it near her ear. “Kirana Paramitha.”

“Pak Bradford asks Mom to his room now.” Kemala said. Kirana's heart was racing.

“Good. Thank you, Kemala.” Kirana tidied her desk, tidied her hair, and took a deep breath.
