The next day, Miles waited until all the salespeople were home. He knew Kirana always came home last. Relieved, he walked past the officers' rooms. There's no one there. After that whole day she had not appeared in his office, the woman must have guessed she would not visit him today. Surprise. That's an important factor in everything he does.
And true. The woman opened the door and rounded her eyes to see her coming. Miles smiled. Slowly she pushed him in, then closed the door and to make sure no one would interrupt them, she locked the door. He put the plastic bag he was carrying on the floor. Without wasting any time, he kissed the woman. Both of his hands casually wrapped around his body.
“Married to me, Kirana.” persuaded Miles not to give up. Kirana laughed a little. He liked the sound of laughter. Seeing that he was no longer tense when he was with her, Miles was happy.
“No.” He hit his arm in a joking manner.
“Dining with me.” Refer Miles again.
“No, Miles.” Kirana framed Miles' face with both hands. “If you think all this is gonna make me change my mind, stop it. How many times have you proposed to me, I will not marry you.”
“Because you don't love me?” Miles knows he sounds hurt, and it's sad. But he does not care if he is weak in front of the woman he loves.
“Because our relationship is complicated.” Kirana sighed softly. Miles smiled with satisfaction. At least the woman didn't say she wasn't in love with him. There's still hope.
“Tell me where the complicated location is. I want to be able to understand you.” challenge Miles. Kirana squinted her eyes.
“First, we don't know each other. We just love having sex, Miles.” Kirana raised both her eyebrows up high. Miles shakes his head.
“I'm taking you to dinner so we can get to know each other. You didn't give me that chance.” accuse Miles. Kirana closed her lips feeling guilty. “What else?”
“Both, I am Indonesian and you are English. I don't want to move citizenship.” Kirana said firmly. Miles smiled with relief.
“I have no plans to ask you to do that. My wife Almarhumah is still Indonesian until the end of her life. Why do you think I would do something different to you?” ask Miles wonder. Kirana simply ignored the rhetorical question.
“Three, we don't love each other. Yes, I do not love you, Miles.” Kirana said seriously. His lips again let out a sentence that was out of tune with his eyes that looked at him longingly.
“In the meantime,” Miles kissed Kirana's lips. The woman responded quickly, Miles chuckled. The woman was even seen protesting as she kept her face away from him. “You lied.”
“You're mocking me.” Kirana pouting.
“I'm still listening to you. Any other reasons?” He released the woman from his embrace as he tried to be free. Kirana walked towards the window. Miles looked at his back and waited. Since he was silent, Miles approached him from behind and wrapped his hands around his body.
“I love you, Kirana.” He was serious with every word he said. “If you make me wait a long time just for the sake of you answering yes. I will wait patiently. I've been to hell. I want to live in your paradise. Please, let me in. I will make you the happiest woman on earth. I promise you.”
“I have to go home now.” Kirana said sadly. Reluctantly, Miles let her out of his arms.
“Oke.” Miles doesn't argue with him anymore. He walked up to the door, picked up the plastic bag he had placed there, and gave it to Kirana. “This is dinner for you. All your favorites. I hope you still like to eat a lot.”
“Spaghetti meatballs, roasted chicken wings, and lime juice. Your special food. Then I add egg rolls, pecan pie, blueberry cheese cake, and your favorite fries.”
He smiled as he took the parcel out of Miles' hands, not wanting to be rude. “Thank you.”
“I'll be out first. If you're afraid someone might suspect our relationship, you wait until I get off. But if you want to come with me, come on.”
Of course he chose to go downstairs after Miles left first. Inside the elevator, Miles simply smiled as he shook his head. He had never met a very stubborn woman. Even for dinner, he did not want to. Maybe he was thinking about his son. Surely after work, he picked up their son who he left to whom and went home together. He hoped that their son would be taken care of by a good man.
She should have seduced him into the bed in the next room. But as soon as he saw his facial expression, Miles could not bear to use his body just to realize his plan. To him, Kirana was more than that. He hated Angelica for using her body. He did not want Kirana to hate him for the same.
The next day, Miles arrives at the office before Kemala arrives. He entered his room as the phone inside his suit pocket shook. He pulled out the phone and enjoyed the view of the city outside his window.
“Reynand.” He greeted the IT chief.
“There is bad news, Sir.” He sounded worried. Miles recognized the tone of the voice and was used to hearing it. Someone in the company did something bad.
“Who?” Hearing a name called Reynand, Miles massaged the top of his nose. “He is the vice director of marketing. Are you sure? He's been working with me for fifteen years.”
“I just do my job, Mr.” he said it makes sense. “The evidence is on me. The number is huge. If you are already in the room, I can go there now.”
“No. Notnot now. There was an important meeting this morning. I don't want my mind distracted by this. We'll talk while we're having lunch outside. I don't want anyone to hear this, so we won't talk about it in my room.” After he mentioned the name of the place and the time, Miles ended the conversation. He took his phone down from his ear.
Another confidant stole from him. Deputy director of marketing. Wh why? Is it because he looks like a superior who is so easily deceived and lied to? Fifteen years. For that long he worked for her. What did he not give her so she thought it was easy to steal from him?
He took a deep breath and turned his body. He put his cell phone on his desk. From the corner of his eyes, he felt the presence of others in the room. He raised his head and looked at Kirana. He sat down leisurely on the long sofa. There were two food boxes and two large paper cups on the table.
“Black coffee and your favorite ham sandwich.” Kirana says meaningfully.
Miles laughed a little. Okay. He surprised the woman three times, now he replied to her. The woman arrived on time. He's in need of a mind-shift right now. Kirana stood up and approached him. Miles didn't wait a second to kiss and hug her once they were close.
“I beg you. Please, marry me.” Miles said.
“My answer will always be no, Miles.” whispered Kirana on her lips. “This is my way of saying goodbye to you. And this is forever.”
Miles frowned, looking at him clueless. Kirana invited him to sit on the sofa and they enjoyed breakfast together while chatting casually. After their sandwiches and drinks ran out, Kirana stood up, walked towards the door, and locked it. He smiled and grabbed Miles' hand. They walked towards the break room that was also in Miles' room. And the man understood. His Juliett said goodbye like they did when they were in Singapore.
If Kirana thinks she can get away from him and say goodbye, Miles will prove her wrong. He will show it to her later. For now, he just wanted to enjoy the happiness that the woman had to offer.
