The Unforgettable Story

The Unforgettable Story
Section 49

The door opened and the woman entered. He did not realize that anyone was sitting on one of the sofas in his room. Kirana approached her desk and placed her bag over it. He looked towards the window and admired the view outside. He sat down and looked around the room. That's when their eyes met.

“Sial.” is slow, but loud enough to catch Miles' ear. He's laughing a little. The woman stood up and slightly lowered her body “Se, good morning, Mr.”

“Good morning, Kirana Paramitha. Or what can also be called Juliett with two letters t.” godanya. He sat down casually on the seat with his legs crossed.

“Pak Bradford. What can I help you with, Sir?” The woman ignored his last words. He was standing uncomfortably near his desk.

“Just call me Miles. Everyone calls me that.” Miles said. The woman frowned.

“One of the interviewers called you with Alastair.” replied the woman reminded him.

“Iya. My best friends call me Alastair. You are my employee.” Miles swept a glance around him so that he did not see the woman frowning at his last sentence. “I hope you like your room. If you have anything you want to change, tell your assistant. I know there's not much to change from this room, but I love that my employees feel comfortable at work. I want you to feel welcomed and well received here.”

“I just arrived and have not had time to check the state of my room. I will let my assistant know if there is anything I need.” he said according to.

There was a knock on the door, Miles let in. The door opened and a man entered while carrying a tray. There are two mugs on it. The aroma of a blend of black coffee and warm chocolate immediately filled the room. He looked towards Kirana then towards Miles. The woman frowned. Miles pointed at the table before him. The man placed the two mugs on the table. After saying goodbye, the man walked out of the room.

“Sit. We talk while drinking. Have you had breakfast?” ask Miles. Kirana did not move from where she was standing.

“Better I stand.” Kirana insisted. Miles smiled slightly. “And already, sir, I've had breakfast.”

“Sit, Kirana. I don't bite. I know it won't make you obey me. We're in the office, I won't try to touch, hug, or anything you don't want. But if I had to, I'd do it.” challenge Miles. His face was so calm, emotionless. Kirana closed her lips. Without arguing anymore, he sat on the sofa opposite his boss.

“Many things I have to work on and learn today, can this be accelerated, Sir?” kirana was impatient.

“You're the head of marketing. It's your first day. It has become a tradition, I welcome the new section chief by inviting conversation while drinking. Please ask other officers. So, relax.” Miles took the mug in front of him, then sipped his coffee. He mumbled softly praising the taste.

“I know there's something you want to ask. Please.” Miles put the mug he was holding back onto the table.

“You must have influenced their decision so as to choose me over the other candidates. Yes ‘kan?” Kirana squinted her eyes.

“Why do you think so? Do you have any proof?” He sat down and looked at her.

“I've checked the profiles of the three of them. Their achievements are outstanding and their work is well organized. When compared to me who just joined this company for six years, I am nothing.”

“You're too low. I've seen for myself how you can answer each question perfectly and give a flawless presentation. You are not afraid to show who you really are. The ideas you submit are also brilliant.” praise Miles. The woman's face softened hearing him. “To answer your question earlier, no, I did not influence anyone's decision. They chose you purely because of your ability. Honestly, I even questioned their choice. I don't want to give the impression that I like their first choice.”

“I don't believe you.” said Kirana suspiciously.

“Please believe what you want. I wasn't in this position because I heard what people said.” Miles stopped talking and pulled the phone out of the inner pocket of his suit. The communication device vibrated. Looking at the name on his screen, he sighed softly. He touched the screen of his phone. Hearing the report from across, he only answered briefly. “I came.”

Although she still wanted to be in this room to talk to her woman, she knew she could not ignore her responsibilities. He kept his phone back in his pocket. Kirana looked at him with fret. Maybe he was still not satisfied with his answer. Or she could not accept the fact that they met again after so long apart, especially since Kirana was expecting that they would never meet again.

Their first meeting was not an experience worth knowing for those around them. Miles knows very well how the people of this country will judge him and Kirana for having slept with someone who is not his partner. But like the principle of his life, he did not care about the opinions of others. He was standing on his own feet at this moment because of his own strength, not because of the help of others.

Seeing Miles standing up, Kirana stood up. The man extended his hand. Reluctantly, the woman accepted. They shook hands for a moment until Miles locked the hand with his other hand. Kirana's forehead shriveled. Miles smiled. He likes to see the woman be alert. It proves that his touch can still affect him.

“You will never know how happy I am to see you again.” Miles whispered. Kirana put her face away.

Miles smiled and let go of the woman's hand. He walked out of the room without looking back. He did not check whether the woman was looking at him or was still throwing her face away. Looking at the woman's attitude and feeling the coldness of her palm, it was enough to be proof of the answer she was looking for. The woman still wants it, wants it.
