He bathed and cleaned his body from hair to feet. After drying her body with a towel, she lay down wearing her bathing coat. That night, he had a nightmare. He thinks of Juliett to help him get through a nightmare come true. This is one way to get rid of nightmares. But that way didn't work. His body and mind were aware that the woman was not by his side.
Two days later, he went to the hospital as soon as he got a call from Pranaja. According to an autopsy, his wife died because her body was deprived of blood. Both of his wrists were slashed using a sharp object so that it released a lot of blood. According to their calculations, Angelica died at six in the afternoon. As their family doctor, Pranaja knew what diseases Angelica had suffered and the types of drugs she had consumed. The results of her autopsy were not much different from what she had known about the woman's health.
“No signs of coercion?” ask Miles.
“No, Al. There is also no medicine or liquor left in your wife's stomach. Just two incisions that alone.” answered Pranaja honestly.
“Can I send this report to the authorities so they can process it too?” pinta Miles's.
“They took. Forensic pathologist asks them to take it immediately.”
“Good. Thank you, Pranaja.” Miles stood up and extended his hand to his doctor. Pranaja stood up and received his hand.
“Sama-sama. Take care of your health, Alastair. Meet me if you need medical attention.” He shook Miles' hand before releasing him.
“Definitely. Thank you.”
A week passed without any certainty about the results of the police examination, as long as Miles could not rest in peace. Meeting, meeting, lunch appointment, or dinner that he did during the week could not take his mind off the case of his wife's death.
Markus and Wanda try to make him feel comfortable at home. They accompanied him when he was sitting alone in the lounge watching television. Every day Wanda cooks her favorite food. Miles appreciated their efforts to cheer him up. But all these efforts did not work.
That morning, Miles finally got a call from his lawyer. He has obtained certainty from the final results of the examination by the authorities. He invited Charles to meet at his office. Body vibrates. He wasn't sure he could walk out of his office before hearing the news. For that reason, he decided that it would be better if his lawyer were to come see him.
“Can't sleep, Alastair?” charles seduced him when he entered his room.
“If you already know the answer, so do not ask.” said Miles annoyed. They sat with a table between them. Kemala had already provided coffee and snacks for them before Charles arrived, so there would be no interrupting their conversation. “Good. I'm ready to listen.”
“OK. Here's the report coffee.” Charles handed him a map. Miles accepted it and opened the cover.
“Your wife died around six in the afternoon from a lack of blood.” her lawyer began his report. “Four hours before your return. You have alibis and witnesses. No one can accuse you of killing your own wife. I'm sure you already know the autopsy results. Your wife killed herself. Both of his wrists were slashed with sharp objects. No signs of coercion or resistance. There were no other findings in his organs. Your wife has a healthy body.”
“On the day of the incident, your wife was supposed to leave the room for dinner at seven. He did not leave the room at his usual hour, but no one was suspicious. Your maid knows that your wife has been acting strange lately and likes to yell at everyone. Even according to Wanda's confession, she was too afraid to check on your wife in your room. He has been yelled at several times for doing that before.” said Charles closed his report.
“But, my wife doesn't plan to have dinner at home. He had a dinner appointment with his friends.” said Miles puzzled.
“For that one I have also checked. None of his friends made any promises to him that day. They all know that it is your wedding anniversary. According to the confession of one of them, your wife plans to make a special dinner for you.” reported Charles. Miles rubbed his forehead with his hand. “You are innocent. You are free from any charges. Your wife is purely suicidal.”
“I still don't understand.” Miles said confused. He looked towards the sheet after sheet of paper that was before him. The autopsy results, the results of the police inspection report, the witness statements, nothing could help him understand what was going on.
Their marriage was problematic, but Angelica never showed any signs that she would be able to do this. When he can't stand it anymore, he usually complains to his parents and brothers. It never crossed his mind that his wife would take such an extreme step. Is he doing this just because he is almost desperate for the circumstances of those who have not been blessed with children?
“In many suicides it is difficult to find a clear motive as to why they ended their lives, Alastair. Unless they say something to their closest person or leave a letter.”. “Well, those two things were not done by your wife.”
Though dissatisfied, Miles knew he could not force his lawyer to investigate the incident further. Moreover, the police have closed it because from the evidence and testimony of witnesses, this is purely suicide. He rubbed his face and took a deep breath. “Thank you, Charles. Very good work. I really appreciate it.”
“So, you don't have to worry. Your wife officially committed suicide. Forgive my straightforwardness.” said Charles attentively. Miles nodded slowly. “There's more I can help you with, Alastair?”
“No. You've been very helpful.”
“I'll have my wife help with your wife's funeral.” Charles put his files back in his bag.
“Thank you. My regards to Cindy.” Miles shook his lawyer's hand.
“Will I tell you.” Charles smiled.
As soon as his lawyer came out of his room, he asked Kemala to call Reynand to come into his room. If he used to smile at the man's face, this time he didn't. Knowing what his boss was going through, Reynand made no comment. Miles asked him to check all of his wife's private messages via email and inbox on his social media account. He was still curious because there was no clue at all about the background of his wife deciding to end his life.
In the afternoon, Reynand gave a report that he did not like. There was nothing suspicious about all the private messages that his wife had. There are no photos, statuses or things that his wife shared on social media that show anything personal. Miles surrenders.
